CURRENT YEAR NOMINATIONS

Current year nominations are accepted via our ONLINE NOMINATION FORM. Please submit completed forms to hof@rutgersblackalumni.org. The deadline to submit nominations for the 2024 Hall of Fame is March 31st, 2024.

Due to a continuous stream of nominations, we will no longer roll over and review nominations not selected in the prior selection process. This change went into effect for the Class of 2019 nomination period and beyond. In order to streamline the nomination review process, we no longer accept nominations by mail. 

CURRENT YEAR HALL OF FAME CEREMONY

The 21st Annual RAAA Hall of Fame Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the New Brunswick Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The Hall of Fame committee will select Rutgers University graduates who have distinguished themselves by contributions they have made to the community, to the University or in their fields of endeavor; by the leadership they have exhibited; and by the general benefits to the larger society resulting from their efforts. Selection will be based largely on accomplishments made since completing an undergraduate/and or graduate degree. The following categories are guidelines for the fields to be considered:

  • Arts, Entertainment & Literature
  • Community Service
  • Journalism & Media
  • Athletics
  • Education
  • Science, Technology & Medicine
  • Business & Entrepreneurship
  • Government & Military
  • Other

Eligibility

Nominee must have graduated from Rutgers University as of December, prior to the year the induction ceremony is held.

  • Nominee can have any degree from any school or college within Rutgers University.
  • Nominee previously inducted into the Rutgers University Distinguished Hall of Alumni are NOW eligible for this prestigious award.
  • Only nominations from financial members of Rutgers African-American Alumni Alliance (RAAA), Inc. will be accepted.
  • A complete nomination must be submitted or the nomination will be disqualified.

A complete nomination includes:

  • Nominee contact information
  • List of accomplishments; to include known service and support to RAAA, Inc.
  • Optional supporting documentation: press releases, articles, resume/CV, publications and support letters

Selection

Upon selection, nominees must be able to attend the award dinner or first available runners up will receive the award (unless awarded posthumously). However, under extenuating circumstances, as determined by the committee, an award may be given in absentia. A nominee who is selected and decides to decline the award forfeits consideration for future selection except for reasons approved by the selection committee. Prior to the Induction Ceremony, all Inductees are required to be financial members of the organization.

All nominations not selected may be resubmitted for consideration in the following year. RAAA actively participates in the Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni application submission process. To date, the following RAAA Hall of Fame Inductees have been subsequently inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni: the late Dr. Clement Price, the late Dr. Walter Alexander II, Mr. Alfred Edmond Jr., Dr. Randal Pinkett, Justice Cheri Beasley and Richard W. Roper.

Honorary Lifetime Membership

Non-Rutgers Graduates are eligible to receive the Honorary Lifetime Membership Award. The designation is reserved for those who go “above and beyond” to ensure the success of Rutgers University Students, Faculty and/or Staff.
