Shawn Austin has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry in leadership, management, marketing, distribution and operations.
Shawn is a Senior Vice President with Liberty Mutual Benefits, a division of Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He is responsible for developing, implementing and leading the distribution and marketing model for a new line of Accident and Health products at Liberty Mutual. Prior to joining Liberty Mutual, he worked for AIG as the Global Head of
Group and Specialty Accident & Health products, a $1.2 billion business. In addition, he served as AIGโs Head of Corporate Accident and held various management roles in his 10+ years at AIG. Prior to AIG, Shawn worked for Kemper Insurance and KPMG Consulting in various leadership roles.
Shawn has also immersed himself in helping and serving the community. He has been instrumental in raising awareness in the Black community about bone marrow testing. In late 2009, with Shawn in the forefront, more than 200 bone marrow drives were held across the country resulting in nearly 13,000 people being added to the Be The Match registry in an effort to find a bone marrow match for his wife, Jennifer. He now serves as the Chair for the Icla da Silva Foundation. The Icla da Silva Foundation is the largest recruitment center for the Be The Match Registry in the United States. He is the Vice Chair for Brooklyn Community Services. He also serves on the boards of Prospect Park Alliance and Atlantic Yards Community Development Corporation. As a Trustee of the Emily and Ellsworth Austin Educational Trust, Shawn facilitated the inclusion of a scholarship specifically earmarked for a Rutgers University student commencing in September 2014. Six university students thus far have benefited from his efforts. Lastly, Shawn is a Trustee for the Bethany Baptist Church of Brooklyn, New York.
Shawn earned a Bachelorโs degree in Mathematics from Rutgers University and a Masters of Business Administration from Fordham Universityโs Graduate School of Business. He resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Jennifer (HOF 2013), and children, Kennedy and Channing.
