As an all-volunteer organization, our most cherished assets are our people. This award represents the “Pinnacle of Dedication and Appreciation” whereby Rutgers African- American Alumni Alliance (RAAA), Inc. recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to the preservation and continuous expansion of our community.
The efforts of each Legacy recipient will be manifested in the words, deeds and support of the RAAA, Inc. as a means to foster its sustainability and growth. The “Keepers of the Legacy” recognition reinforces our sincerest appreciation to those committed to the preservation and continuation of the legacy that is RAAA.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
AND This Shall Be Called Legacy
Live it, not language it nor languish in it. do so Eagerly and energetically
always giving with a Glad and generous heart,
Accountable, affirming through our actions
for our actions are the very thing that tells our story. Coming together, to create, to collaborate as community builders and not as critics
Yielding and yearning to fulfill our purpose, our God given purpose of being loving and in service of one another.
Determined, Committed, Persistent, Consistent, Resilient, Passionate, Loving and Patient.
And this shall be called Legacy.
This poem was written by Kendall Hall as a tribute to Dr. Leonard Bethel for his forty plus years of service to our community. The poem was originally recited during the closing ceremony of Africana’s 40th Anniversary and Retirement gathering for Dr. Leonard Bethel in March 2011.
