William Barbee, a proud graduate of Rutgers University Newark from the Class of 1997, attributes the university’s curriculum and supportive services to reshaping his cognitive processing. He is a prominent mental health advocate, published author, and filmmaker, overseeing multiple ventures including transportation services, real estate investments, childcare facilities, a media company, and an outpatient mental and substance misuse clinic. Acknowledging Rutgers’s pivotal role in his journey, William credits the institution for shaping him into the accomplished Filmmaker/Director/Author/Entrepreneur/Philanthropist he is today. Inspired by his life experiences, he has produced films focusing on mental health and resilience, such as “Clipped Wings They Do Fly” and “Beyond the Silence.” William actively supports initiatives like the West Orange Police Department’s partnership with the Mental Health Association and the Health Care Foundation of the Oranges, sponsors health fairs, and was honored by the Township of West Orange with a 2020 Martin Luther King Day Proclamation.
