Alonzo Adams

Alonzo Adams is a critically acclaimed artist whose work has been featured in solo exhibitions and private venues in the East, including Howard University and the Senate Building in Washington, D.C., Rutgers University, Dow Jones and Uptown Records. He was recently featured at the Black Romantics Show held at the Studio Museum in Harlem. 

Inspired by such greats as Charles White, Henry O. Tanner, L’Hermitte, John Singer Sargent and Rembrandt, Mr. Adams’ career has taken him all over the world. With over 20 years of experience as a professional artist, he has garnered numerous awards in art exhibitions. Many publications have featured articles on Alonzo, including Art Business News, Black Enterprise, Images Magazine, Upscale Magazine and ESPN Magazine. He was one of the first African-American artists to become an Absolut Artist. 

Mr. Adams has been blessed to have many prominent collectors adorn their homes with his work; such notables as Dr. William H. Cosby, Dr. Maya Angelou, Earl Graves, Alonzo Mourning, Jasmine Guy, Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing, Andre Harrell, Kenny Lattimore, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Wesley Snipes, and many more. Among Alonzo’s many commissions are H.B.O., Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Delta Sigma Theta, Rutgers University and countless others. 

In 2003, New York City’s Sotheby’s auction house offered three pieces of Mr. Adams’ work that raised over $21,000 for the Strang Cancer Prevention Center. In March 2004, Mr. Adams opened the Sienna Visions Fine Art Gallery in Plainfield. Sienna Visions features his work and that of other select artists. After graduating from Rutgers University, Mr. Adams attended the Ducret School of Art and was awarded the Camille O. Cosby Fellowship to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1991. 

When he is not in the studio, Mr. Adams takes time to participate in and support a variety of community and fundraising events. He has established a fund to assist aspiring young artists; providing them with funding to purchase art supplies, pay tuition and cover other art education-related expenses. He presently serves on the board of Plainfield, NJ-based Ducret School of Art.
